Year 6 Transition

Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a particularly significant change for all children. But starting a new school is also an exciting time. At Orsett Heath Academy, we have developed a strong transition process to ensure your child’s journey to us is as smooth as possible.

Step 1 – Admissions Information

Admissions Information forms must be completed and returned to Orsett Heath Academy.

Step 2 – Welcome Pack and Video

To find out everything you need to know about Orsett Heath Academy have a look at our Welcome Pack.

Some of our Year 8’s have also filmed a Welcome Video for all new students joining us in September. The School Ambassadors wanted to show what a normal day at Orsett Heath is like, show students around the school, and answer any questions they think they might have before joining us.

Step 3 – Primary School Contact

Mr Taylor, Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead, will be contacting the primary schools to introduce himself and inform pupils what will be happening over the next few months.

Step 4 – Preparing your child

To support new students, we have produced a Transition Booklet which contains some key information and guidance for students on how to prepare, get ready, and look forward to joining us soon.

You might also want to have a look at BBC Bitesize who have put together lots of information and videos about starting High School. The series offers practical advice and emotional support to help take the stress out of taking the next big step.

Step 4 – Induction Evening

Parents are invited to attend a face-to-face transition evening. During this session parents/carers and Year 6 pupils will meet with their tutor and discuss what to expect and how to prepare for joining Orsett Heath Academy.

Step 5 – Transition Days

All students are also invited to attend an on-site transition week.

These days will allow pupils to experience a range of lessons, get their photos and Wisepay biometrics taken, meet staff and other pupils, and have an introduction to life at Orsett Heath Academy.

For further details, please see the Transition Days FAQs

Step 6 – First Day in September

On this day, Year 7 will be the only year group in school which will give us additional time to support their settling in and transition to secondary school. The full school will return the following day.
